Restoring a Spanish Cortijo in the Alpujarra

Looking North. The village with the Sierra Nevada in the background

We bought a cortijo ( farm house ) in a very small village in the province of Granada, about 1 hour from the nearest beach and 2 hours from the mountains of the Sierra Nevada.

We applied for permission from the local town hall to make a few changes which included putting in some extra windows and general repair and restoration work. Our plans were approved.

This space in the corner was for hay for feeding one or two goats. This room was upstairs and became our bedroom, minus the hay store and goats.

Goats provided heating for those colder nights.
